Get To Know Local Downtown Coffeeshop: Duluth Coffee Company

Get to Know Duluth Coffee Co.

There’s nothing like the smell of fresh roasted coffee. That’s why there’s nothing quite like Duluth Coffee Company, a cozy coffeehouse and roaster on Superior Street that’s committed to making good coffee.

You may have sipped their Zenith City espresso while listening to The Freewheelin’ on vinyl, or met a friend over a cup of Sumatra. If you haven’t, please do so immediately. Add it to your “To Du” list and make a trip this weekend.

And now, let’s met Duluth Coffee Company.

Eric Faust, Duluth Coffee Company

How did you get started? I got into coffee very young. I was working in cafes for awhile, and eventually started trying to roast my own coffee on a popcorn popper. Duluth Coffee Company opened 3 years ago, and we’ve been at the downtown location for the past two years.

Why did you choose Duluth? I love it here. The lake, people, the atmosphere, the seasons. They all make this an amazing place. Duluth is where my wife and I wanted to live and raise a family.

What is one thing your business is primarily known for? Roasting the best coffee in Duluth.

What is your favorite thing about Duluth? The diversity of the seasons.

What do you think about the current Duluth economy? The economy is growing faster than we recognize. Duluth is being discovered and becoming a destination for people. We are moving beyond a seasonal town and into a destination as an all-season city.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about opening a new business in Duluth? Get to know Duluth first. Drink the local beer, sit on the local bar stool, sip the local coffee, eat the local food. People here are unique and you have to get the feel for them so that when you present a product to them, they get it and find identity in it.

What is a fun fact about you? I have a beautiful wife, two wonderful kids, 2 dogs a cat and 5 chickens. Love being surrounded by life.
