Get To Know Local Duluth Web Design Company: Set Sail Media

Set Sail Media: Local Duluth Web Design Company
Snuggle up by the fire because it’s time for another Duluth success story. This time, we’re featuring local web developer and part-time outdoorsman, Patrick Moore of Set Sail Media.

Patrick started coding at a very young age, which allowed him to move up quickly and eventually start his own business. His websites are smart, clean and focused on presenting business in the best way possible.

Now, let’s get to know him a little better..

Meet Patrick Moore of Set Sail Media
Located in Congdon / Duluth

Years in business:
Formed 2006 (8 years already!?)

How did you get started?
I connected with 3 other creatives (a musician/motion graphics guy, an illustrator, and a designer/writer) and founded Set Sail in an apartment bedroom.

Why did you choose Duluth?
Or rather, Duluth chose me! We returned home to Duluth to be close to family and found it to be the right recipe for success. Duluth is experiencing a renaissance-like revival in its economy with plenty of opportunity for small business owners.

What is one thing your business is primarily known for?
Our work with non-profits and associations, as well as our ability to custom-develop large, database-driven websites.

What is your favorite thing about Duluth?
Outdoors and opportunity for outdoor activities. (Patrick likes to downhill ski in the winter and go on canoe trips in the summer.)

What do you think about the current Duluth economy?
I think we’re heading in the right direction…

What would be your advice to someone thinking about opening a new business in Duluth?
I read a quote one time that has stuck with me: every man (or woman) has a good idea in the shower. It’s the person that gets out of the shower and does something about it who is successful and innovative.

My best advice would be to take the first step. Starting a business can be intimidating, but it’s not as scary as everyone makes it out to be. Find a problem, offer a solution, and get your solution in front of people with the problem. But most importantly, do something. Take action.

Now, for some fun facts. What are your Duluth favorites?

Favorite place to eat in Duluth? Northern Waters Smokehaus

Favorite local business in Duluth? Whole Foods Co-Op…They’re a great success story. I can remember shopping in their original space (now Burrito Union) and it pales in comparison to what they are today.

Favorite Duluth “hidden gem?” The many parks and trails—documented or otherwise—that are fun to explore.
