We are so excited…
Local artisan brewery, Blacklist, announced on Sunday it will be opening a taproom downtown. They expect to be open by Summer 2016 in the old Last Place on Earth space at 120 E Superior St. We’ve been patiently waiting during the Downtown area’s revival to see who will take on the vacant space where Last Place on Earth once resided.
The historic building was originally built as a hotel in the early 1900’s, but much like many downtown buildings, it fell into a state of disrepair over the years. In 1996, Jim Carlson opened the Last Place on Earth shop. The shop sold all manner of items dancing the line of legality. After becoming the center of city and federal criminal investigations, the business was finally shut down when Carlson was convicted in 2013 for selling synthetic drugs. The space was seized by the government until real estate company, Titanium Partners, bought the property in August 2015.
We’re proud Duluthians seeing the expansion of Blacklist has gained lots of media coverage this week. Currently, you can find Blacklist beer around Duluth at liquor stores and on tap at local bars and restaurants. You can use their handy locator to find Blacklist near you! The expansion will give Blacklist the means to expand their production line of their creative, unique brews.
Blacklist was founded in 2012 and moved into the downtown space, 211 E. Second St., in 2014 where the Dubrue brewery once was.
We can’t wait to see the remodel effort and revival of such a troubled space into something so good.
Congrats, Blacklist!
